Singaporean Brands Overseas
Local companies are expanding overseas. The focus is on the government’s assistance to these companies, be it in the form of monetary or influence. In spite of the assistance from the local government, the successful expansion highly depends on the individual company and their target markets. The worry from the local authorities is centered on the tendency of the SMEs to be over reliant and also the “hollowing-out” (the immigration of business from the country of origin, causing a dilution of the country’s economy) of the root country. The government is striving to achieve a balance in the successful expansion as well as to maintain the balance and not “hollow-out” the country.
